The Villiger Trill Toro I’ve exhumed from my desktop humidor exhibits an unctuous Habano wrapper with a structure of thin veins. It’s supple to the touch and offers the perfect resistance to ensure a clean, precise cut. The pre-light aroma and cold draw exude a buoyant bouquet of cedar, earthiness, and black pepper.
As flame touches foot, complete combustion ensues, albeit with a slightly uneven burn. After a pinpoint correction with my sporty torch lighter, voluminous clouds of fragrant, sweet-smelling smoke perfume the air. The tasting notes aren’t complex, but they do reveal a peppery spice on the palate.
As we progress into the halfway point of this Dominican-drafted, heavily discounted dynamo, an interesting flavor transition ensues. Deeper, darker notes of cocoa and over-ripened cherries merge into a fleeting pepper-laden finish.
As the cigar reaches its anti-climactic conclusion, roughly fifty minutes have passed. The cigar’s strength peaks with a respectable medium-bodied finish that lingers on the palate.
