Villiger Trill Toro Staff Review
In this edition of “Grant’s Rant,” I’m reviewing the exquisite and engaging 6 x 50 Villiger Trill Toro. My gluttonous cigar consumption is bolstered by the staff reviews I compose for brands like Villiger. I get to smoke over and above my daily allocation while I share my findings with fellow cigar lovers who demand the absolute best in flavor and combustion for the trademark rock-bottom prices Holt’s is known for. My mission is to stack the deck in your favor so that every cigar you procure based on my endorsement is a bona fide winner.
The Villiger brand is a well-known, family-owned European tobacco conglomerate that was founded in 1888 by Jean and Louise Villiger in the town of Pfeffikon in Lucerne, Switzerland. The company specializes in producing small-format machine-made cigars, most notably Villiger Export and Villiger Kiel. In recent years, the brand has introduced a handful of premium handmade cigars as well.
Villiger’s premium editions have attracted interest thanks to numerous ratings of 90 points and higher from Cigar Aficionado, as well as ranking in the ‘Top 10 Cigars of the Year’ in 2017 for the often mispronounced Villiger La Flor de Ynclan. Despite the brand’s recent critical accolades, cigars in the Villiger portfolio have largely remained stationary on display shelves at hapless retailers from coast to coast.
That is, until your pals in the accounting department at Holt’s retrieved their Casio calculators and sharpened their No. 2 pencils from Dixon Ticonderoga to evaluate how much profit margin could be safely shaved off. And voila! Villiger sales began appearing on our weekly spreadsheets.
Now is the best time in the history of cigar-smoking mankind to become a fan of Villiger. Unleash your frugal urges upon aisle after aisle of sub-wholesale gems like Villiger Trill, fresh from the palatial closeout annex in our recently expanded warehouse. Devour Villiger today for as low as $1.99 per cigar and save up to 68% off MSRP. Please read on if you remain unconvinced that now is the time to pull the trigger.
The Villiger Trill Toro I’ve exhumed from my desktop humidor exhibits an unctuous Habano wrapper with a structure of thin veins. It’s supple to the touch and offers the perfect resistance to ensure a clean, precise cut. The pre-light aroma and cold draw exude a buoyant bouquet of cedar, earthiness, and black pepper.
As flame touches foot, complete combustion ensues, albeit with a slightly uneven burn. After a pinpoint correction with my sporty torch lighter, voluminous clouds of fragrant, sweet-smelling smoke perfume the air. The tasting notes aren’t complex, but they do reveal a peppery spice on the palate.
As we progress into the halfway point of this Dominican-drafted, heavily discounted dynamo, an interesting flavor transition ensues. Deeper, darker notes of cocoa and over-ripened cherries merge into a fleeting pepper-laden finish.
As the cigar reaches its anti-climactic conclusion, roughly fifty minutes have passed. The cigar’s strength peaks with a respectable medium-bodied finish that lingers on the palate. In my experience, very few cigars in the $2 price range can deliver such a rewarding experience. Tell your friends and tweet your followers that you’ve just found your new everyday smoke: the GT-endorsed, 82-rated Villiger Trill!
Until next time, long ashes to you!
