Best Cigars With a Nutty Flavor

What does “nutty” mean when we talk about how cigars taste? Because we eat nuts, “nutty” is a more tangible tasting note than leather or earth. There are many different kinds of nuts, though. Almonds, cashews, walnuts, and chestnuts are common in cigar descriptions. Occasionally, you’ll also encounter tasting notes of hazelnuts, peanuts, and pistachios. Nuts can be roasted, smoked, sweetened, or salted. Before we get too specific, cigars that exhibit notes of nuts are typically simply characterized as being nutty. Mild, medium, and full-bodied cigars made from a wide range of tobaccos can possess nutty tasting notes. Following is a versatile list of the best nutty cigars.

#1. Ashton Cabinet

Ashton Cabinet is a quintessential creamy, rich, and nutty cigar. The blend is handcrafted entirely from premium Dominican binder and filer tobaccos and a golden-blond Connecticut Shade wrapper leaf. The mild to medium-bodied profile reveals silky notes of almonds, cashews, cedar, and coffee beans in an approachable but abundant finish.

#2. Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva

Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva in the Cameroon (or Natural) wrapper varietal harbors excellent notes of cedar, cinnamon, chestnuts, smoked almonds, and a touch of baking spices in a legendary cornerstone blend within the Fuente portfolio. Carlito Fuente blends a magnificent interior of premium Dominican long-fillers that burn in perfect accord with an aged Cameroon wrapper leaf. Among the most popular shapes is the iconic Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva 8-5-8.

#3. San Cristobal Revelation

A shimmering Ecuador Sumatra wrapper leaf conceals a medium-bodied core of well-aged Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos blended by award-winning father-and-son cigar-makers Jose ‘Pepin’ Garcia and Jaime Garcia. Tasting notes of pepper, caramel, earth, and nuts define an excellent profile in a popular collection of shapes, including the 93-rated box-pressed 7 x 50 Triumph. San Cristobal Revelation is a well-made, balanced and nutty Nicaraguan cigar.

#4. La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor

An oily, well-aged San Andrés wrapper leaf embraces a medium to full-bodied interior of premium Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos blended by Pepin Garcia. La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor is distinct for the marvelous transition of tasting notes it carries. Woody and sweet notes of espresso beans and cracked black pepper converge in a creamy, nutty finish with notes of almonds and nougat. In 2011, the blend scored 95 points and ‘#2 Cigar of the Year’ honors in Cigar Aficionado.

#5. Padron 1964 Anniversary

Padron 1964 Anniversary is an iconic blend drawn exclusively from vintage Nicaraguan binder, filler, and wrapper tobaccos aged for a minimum of six years. The Natural wrapper version reveals a profile of cedar, cocoa, cayenne, cinnamon, almonds, and walnuts with ample spices in a top-rated collection of box-pressed shapes. A moderately peppery profile of wood and caramel converges with tasting notes of walnuts and chestnuts in a medium to full-bodied finish. The acclaimed blend is handmade from a reddish-brown Ecuador Sumatra wrapper leaf and a premium core of Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos.
