Perdomo Habano Connecticut Epicure Staff Review
Today, I am reviewing Perdomo Habano Connecticut in a 6 x 54 Epicure. The blend is also called Perdomo Habano Bourbon Barrel-Aged Connecticut, a reference to how the wrapper is aged. The cigar is rolled with a glistening Ecuador Connecticut wrapper leaf like the brand’s bestselling Perdomo 10th Anniversary Connecticut blend.
Perdomo brand founder Nick Perdomo has built an insanely loyal fan base over the past two decades called the “Perdomo Army.” Because Nick has made it his mission to keep his prices as competitive as possible without lowering his standards for quality or taste, fans of cigars like Habano Connecticut flock to our annual Perdomo event. Perdomo Habano Connecticut is handcrafted at the state-of-the-art Tabacalera Perdomo factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The blend is made from Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos grown on Perdomo family estates. The tobaccos are aged for a minimum of six years and finished with an Ecuador Connecticut wrapper that has been aged eight months in a bourbon barrel.
Nick is always updating and enhancing the packaging for his cigars. The band on Habano Connecticut is absolutely stunning. Detailed embossing and gold foil accents immediately catch the eye. Look past the band and you’ll notice the flawless, golden-blond Ecuador Connecticut wrapper. Pre-light aromas of sweet earth, hay, and dried cherries swirl off the foot while the cold draw adds notes of pepper, molasses, and dark chocolate.
As I light up, a profile of spices and oak dominates the palate. The taste quickly smooths out and becomes very creamy. Zestier notes are more apparent in the retrohale. As the tobaccos heat up, I pick up hints of dried fruit and almonds. The middle portion of Habano Connecticut is perfectly balanced and smooth. Notes of leather and cherries meld together with a touch of seeded rye toast. The profile shifts slightly. Bold notes of cedar, charred oak, and pepper develop. Towards the end, a mustiness emerges, most likely due to the extended aging of the wrapper in a bourbon barrel.
If the cigar’s complex flavor taste isn’t enough to persuade you to try Habano Connecticut, its construction should do the trick. Every Perdomo cigar is draw-tested before it leaves the factory, and that is evident here. The draw is absolutely flawless. The cigar seems stronger than what it is thanks to the spiciness of the retrohale. However, zest is not a good indicator of strength. Perdomo Habano Connecticut is a solid mild to medium-bodied cigar.
